This story is about the women in my family, inter-generational allegiance between women, familial love, tension, death, and new life.

Trigger Warning: Describes a woman’s last moments alive.

Ashley-Luisa Santangelo is a poet and storyteller from South-Eastern Pennsylvania. She is a librarian and a full time student pursuing a B.A. in Latin American Art History and Spanish Literature at Hunter College. She was previously published in the 2014 issue of the George Street Carnival and in 2015 was awarded the Academy of American Poets’ Student Prize. She finds inspiration in her Colombian heritage and love of language. Currently, Ashley-Luisa lives in South Brooklyn with her cat, Freyja.
